Getting to Medina and around

By air: Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport (MED)

Medina's airport lies about 15 km northeast of the Prophet's Mosque — roughly a 20–25 minute drive. It handles direct flights from across the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, Turkey, Europe and North Africa, alongside dense domestic links to Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam. By rail: the Haramain high-speed railway

The Haramain railway connects Medina with King Abdullah Economic City, Jeddah's airport, Jeddah city and Mecca at speeds up to 300 km/h. Medina to Mecca takes on the order of two and a half hours; Medina to Jeddah roughly two. Medina's station stands on the western side of the city, about 10–15 minutes from the mosque by taxi. By road

SAPTCO and private operators run intercity buses to Mecca, Jeddah, Yanbu, Tabuk and beyond, and many Umrah groups travel by chartered coach. The drive to Mecca (about 420–450 km via Highway 15) takes around four to five hours. Pilgrims driving from Medina toward Mecca stop at the miqat at Dhul-Hulayfah on the city's southwestern edge to enter ihram.

Getting around the city

• On foot: the central district is compact — most hotels, al-Baqi and Al-Ghamama are minutes from the mosque, and a landscaped pedestrian route runs south toward Quba.
• Ride-hailing and taxis: Uber and Careem are cheap and reliable; a typical cross-town ride costs a few dollars. Agree the fare first in unmetered street taxis.
• City buses: the Madinah bus network runs on main corridors, with hop-on hop-off style loops serving the major ziyarat sites in peak seasons.
• Ziyarat by car: hotels arrange half-day drivers covering Quba, Qiblatayn, the Seven Mosques and Uhud — the standard circuit in the itineraries.
